LOS ANGELES

“There are two modes of transport in Los Angeles: car and ambulance. Visitors who wish to remain inconspicuous are advised to choose the latter.” – Fran Lebowitz

Hello Everyone,

THE CITY
love L. A., it's the most Mexican city in the world. A town full of revelations, addictions and contradictions, where everybody seems nice under the warm sunny days. Which is why filmmakers in town invent stories of bad weather and horrible people.

My grandparents lived in L.A., specifically in the popular area that is known as East Los Angeles. What a surprise?, well, not to me, it is only logical to think that they decided to live in an area where they felt at home, because 95% of the population are Hispanics, _ what is surprising is the other 5% wanting to live among Latinos_ That is why, East Los Angeles is consider to be one of the least divers places in United States.

WALKING AROUND TOWN
The history of Los Angeles reveals a great deal of interesting facts, I would recommend to do a walking tour to experience first hand the reality of what the town is all about, while at the same time, you'd get all the juicy, historical details of what, where, how and whom.

Last year, as a special treat, I took a couple of tours in Downtown. The first, The Beginnings, featured some of the oldest buildings and streets in the area, all packed with history. The second, Haunting Tales, highlighted the most horrific crimes and unsolved mysteries in Los Angeles  from the 1800's up to now.

FROM BIG TO SMALL
It’s a very strange yet reassuring feeling whenever I visit the city. It’s like a mix of anonymity and excitement — as if I’m watching a movie in the comfort of my living room, but at the same time, I’m one of the protagonists in the show..

Los Angeles is consider one of the Entertainment Capitals of the World, and it truly lives up to its name. Hollywood movies make this possible, it is rightly an amusing town that stirs so many emotions for so many reasons. It is also the second biggest city in United States. From my perspective, the bigger the city, the shorter its name appears.

WHAT A NAME
Its name has been shortened over the years, it has been known officially and by common agreement in many variations since its founding in 1781. However, according to some articles from the 1800's, the area was already being referred to simply as L.A.- a label that somehow carries the weight of the whole city.

THE MUSIC
I wrote this piece thinking of L.A. longing for its beautiful sunsets. Wishing to come back soon. Originally, I wanted the music to flow at a fast tempo, but I had to remind myself that not everything fast in life is better. Thus, I decided to marked the tempo as Moderato, ultimately, I know most musicians decide on their own interpretation, making changes as they pleased.

This piece, taken from my California Sessions Notebook, reflects my love for L.A. — a city with a long love-hate relationship with the world. Everywhere I look, things might seem a little plastic, and people a little fake, but that’s part of its charm. I wanted to show that even “fake” people are still human, and the plastic — well, we can’t really live without it. So why not step away from the harsh realities for a bit, have some fun, and if you get the chance, visit L.A.

Thank you for reading!
